Doesnt the first day of the year inspire some of the most refreshing and hopeful feelings in the entire world?? Somehow, no matter what the previous year has brought our way, a brand spanking new calender feels full of promise. Along the way, days pass and reality ways down heavy. We (yes Im seeing Tom Cruise in Top Gun as I write this) lose that “loving feeling” and get bogged back down in all of the same messy life stuff that had us so desperately looking for a new start. That is why I am going to keep coming back to the idea of Being and Staying Inspired in 2013!

Today, wasnt an exceptional day but it was a good day. I got an early start and used the morning to get acquainted with my new BFF….

Weight Watchers E-Tools and I are going to be quite the pair in 2013. I get full access to the site as part of my monthly pass fee. The resources are in this site are unmistakably important to a new or struggling dieter. The best feature, for me, is the ability to track the calories/points for every since bite or sip I take.

I also love that the site will calculate your activity points for you based on your time/intensity/current weight.

Honestly, the site is FULL of goodies. There are blogs, message boards, recipe builders (so you can track nutritional stats per serving), recipe ideas, and the list really goes on and on.

While I worked I had a cup of gingerbread coffee (Holy Yum Batman) and a Kashi Waffle with my favorite peanut butter ever. I wanted just enough to fuel pre-run but not enough to have me feeling sluggish.

After breakfast it was off to the trail for the first run of 2013. It looks like Ill get quite acquainted with these routes over the next year!

I decided that, just for fun, I would keep track of miles run and minutes spent in the hot room (yoga) this year. Ive added a little section over to the right of the blog if you’d like to follow along! :) While my mileage was pretty short today, my pace was solid. Ive started fresh with Ease Into 5K and it felt great to get out there and run. Before I knew it I was back to the top of the hill and heading to my car.

Oh and PS- I ran to my new Neon Trees album today…. Amazing! They are going on the running play list for sure! And just like that the first 2013 workout was in the books!

In the name of full disclosure I will admit that seeing my face so full makes me a little sad and embarrassed. BUT, no one transforms overnight so Ill use that feeling to fuel my run tomorrow. After leaving the trail I headed right home to fix a “Green Monster”. I knew the real heros of this smoothie would be the amazing berries I scored on sale earlier in the week.

In the Mix:

-Generous scoops of raspberries and blueberries

-1/2 Banana

-2 cups spinach

-3/4 cup yogurt

-1/4 cup milk (cow’s milk but feel free to use almond)

-frozen strawberries and pineapple

I hijacked one of the hubs frosty mugs to sip my smoothie out of. It was perfection!

I may have been a bet heavy handed on the berries as the hubs felt the monster was “a little too seedy”. It was exactly what I wanted after a long run and I personally LOVED the tangy kick of the berries.

As for the rest of this first day of the year….I have a house to straighten, veggie soup to start, pups begging for snuggles and a TIVO calling my name!!

Happy New Year to You!!!!
