Ease Into 5K Week 2

Annnnnnd it’s Monday again. After a Christmas shopping extravaganza over the weekend (I truly love picking out special little gifts for loved ones!) it was back to the grind today. I was especially on edge since I’d been out of work for an entire week for my Human Sexuality class. Luckily, there were no major issues while I was on leave so it was pretty much back to business today.

And my first order? Ease Into 5K Week 2. This week will be made up of three runs using the following format:

Warm Up 5 Minutes

Run 45 Seconds

Walk 60 Seconds

Run 60 Seconds

Walk 90 Seconds

Run 90 Seconds

Walk 2 Minutes

Cool Down 5 Minutes

I hit the trail right after work all bundled up. It has been C O L D lately (which I totally welcome) and I really need to switch up my workout gear.

Today’s run was rough. It was terrible actually. My legs, ankles, and back all felt tight. About a mile into the run I really got into my own head and the rest of the run was pure misery. I tend to really get down on myself once a run goes off the rails and thats something I really hope to work on in the upcoming weeks. One of my best friends asked me why I kept going out for runs when I seem to be so often discouraged. My answer was that just one good run- just oneΒ fabulous day on the trail makes 10 terrible runs totally worth it. And, today, well it was one of the bad days. I was pretty excited to see the end of the trail.

I was really disappointed in myself. Luckily, when I finally made it home the hubs was ready to jump in and take over the prep for tonight’s Buffalo Chicken Sloppy Joes.

I heart these because in addition to the lean ground chicken breasts you add in some veggies for bulk with other traditional sloppy joe veggies (celery, carrots, and onions for extra kick).

While the hubs worked on the meat part of the dish I took over the sauce: 8oz tomato sauce, 1/2 cup hot sauce, red wine vinegar to taste, and brown sugar to taste. YUM!

The idea is to replicate chicken wings without all of the ridiculous calories and fat! To keep the “wing theme” going we also added ranch dressing mix (powder) to some baked Alexia fries. I have a full review and giveaway of these amazing fall products coming soon but these fries made the perfect side for out Buffalo Joes!

Also on today’s eats list:

Ezekiel sprouted grain English Muffin with Cinnamon Granola Peanut Butter

And a Roast Beef and Swiss with fresh lettuce, tomato, and garlic herb aoli.

And now I am officially worn out! I need approximately 6 extra hours in the day. Think we can arrange that? Luckily, I have an excellent work/blog partner tonight!

And on a final note- a couple of you asked if I bought anything for myself on Saturday’s holiday shopping outing. Aside from a fun purchase at Teavana I really managed to keep my self-shopping to a minimum.

Now off to make what I am told is “the perfect cup of tea”. We shall see!!!

      They are for me. I just decided they were cute and I was buying some gifts in there anyway so I just tossed them on the pile at the last minute! πŸ™‚ The clutch was a steal and the lace shirt was on ridiculous clearance at Macys for like 11.00!

    The clutch is super cute!! Sorry about the bad run. I hate it when I get into my own head and make it that much worse. Ugh! I had a bad run on Sunday and ended up walking way more than I anticipated. Oh well. Here’s to a good run next time, for both of us!! πŸ™‚
