Sooo what on earth happened that had me so sleepy today that all I could manage was a matinee of Rock of Ages (which PS Tom Cruise is amazeballs in)?? I was recovering from one of the best little trips I have taken in ages. In fact, it was so much fun that we barely slept as to cram in as much awesome as possible but I am getting ahead of myself.
Thursday morning I was up even earlier than I am for work to drive up to Roanoke and meet up with my pal Kristen.
I was pumped to finally break out the watch my parents got my for my Birthday. (Thanks again guys!!)
The weather was beautiful (think sunny but not hot with a gentle breeze). We lucked out with this temperature for the entire trip. We also lucked out with a freebie hotel (thanks pops!), time off work, and a car with great gas mileage. Additionally, we had zero obligations for two days. Needless to say we were all smiles.
The trip to NC was exactly what youd expect with the two of us– nonstop chatting and laughing. You would think it might be hard to chat for three hours with someone you literally speak to daily but thats the wonderful thing about great girlfriends– you can talk, talk, and then talk some more. Before we knew it we were rolling into Charlotte. First stop…..CowFish!
Charlotte, NC is kind of a Healthy Living Blog hub. Tons of bloggers live there so Ive seen this place talked about approximately one zillion times on other blogs. I have not so secretly been dying to try it.
The menu is quite extensive and we were overwhelmed…in a good way!
After mulling it over, we had a lot of trouble deciding what to order. Im mild;y ashamed to admit we ordered a bit of everything. Unfortunately, a lot of food went to waste BUT I was able to stay in my WW points range for the day. You might be asking yourself– How much could they have possibly ordered?? Ahem…
We tried a couple bites of everything but honestly we barely put a dent in it. But that was our fault and not the foods. It was amazing!
Totally stuffed we headed over to the mall next door for some shopping….after a couple of photo ops of course!
After an afternoon of shopping we made our way uptown to our hotel. It was time to get freshened up for the main event. My dad had hooked us up with a free room. He travels a L O T and has frequent traveler points that Ill occasionally utilize. Ahem. Anywho, Holy Nice Room Batman! We were hooked up with a room on the 12th floor, access to the 15th floor “lounge”, and lucky enough to meet some of the sweetest hotel staff in all of NC!
We got right to work getting ready for the show. We left a little early to allow time for perusing the venue ie blog photo taking. Unfortunately, the GPS had other plans for us.
Apparently GPS felt this was where Gavin Degraw would be performing. One super nice security guard later and we were headed back in the right direction!
Success!!! We made it to the NC Music Factory/ Time Warner Amphitheater with time to spare!
I really love an excuse to wear a hat. We did a little exploring ie shopping and quickly found our seats.
And they were good ones! The venue is not terribly huge and we had a really amazing view of the show. First up was Andy Grammar. We both had a little trouble figuring out who he was until he sang this….
He was so charismatic an amazing. We are both now proud owners of his album!
After his set we passed the time
drooling over reading about Ian Somerhalder. If there is a Fifty Shades of Grey movie and he does play Christian Grey I will need a sedative. I feel pretty certain of that. Wow.
Anywho, it wasnt long before THE guy we came to see took the state…. Gavin Degraw!!!!
He was beyond amazing. We sang, danced, and screamed our faces off his entire set. There is video proof of this on Kristen’s I-Phone. Ahem. We were like kids at a boy band concert. Between the weather, great music, and general happy vibe of the night– it literally could not have been any more amazing.
We heart Gavin!
Once he left the stage we settled in while the final performer, Colbie Calliat. I knew that I knew a couple of her songs but I was not a major fan of hers. After seeing her live I have to say I kind of love her now!
We were three for three with amazing performances. It was truly one of the most fun experiences Ive ever had. There is just something about sitting out in the warm summer air with a good friend and good music. LOVE! We headed back to our hotel to drop of the car (it turns out valet has a curfew-oops) and head back out on the town.
We were pretty worn out but we ventured over to Brixx for some pizza and chit chat.
The pizza had a black bean base rather than tomato and it was pretty tasty! Im planning to hopefully recreate this little gem at home!
After dinner it was back to the hotel for our new “Gavin jammies” and a couple hours of sleep.
I have a pair of shorts on the way. They didnt have my size at the show but the hubs saved the day and ordered mine online (Thanks B!!).
The next morning we packed up and said goodbye to our hotel and its amazing staff!
The first stop on our agenda was FOOD and Zada Janes looked like a great spot to try.
If you ever find yourself here for breakfast….TRY THE BISCUITS! They were so good! We both chose the bacon egg and cheese biscut. I paired mine with a sugar free skim vanillla latte.
Then we were off for another day of shopping!!!
We visited some old faves…
And some new….
Yup! This was my first ever visit to Ikea (and Kristens second). We made some rookie mistakes but managed to make it out alive and with some pretty good deals!
Finally, we packed the trunk and car within an inch of its life and headed home.
Im calling it….Best roadtrip E V E R!
What is the best roadtrip youve ever been on?
